SCIATICA

Sciatica can be painful and affect your quality of life and ability to move around easily. At Click Chiropractic, we offer chiropractic adjustments, which can help to eliminate your pain. We invite you to keep reading to learn more about the causes of sciatica and how chiropractic care can be beneficial with recovery.

What is Sciatica and What are Some Causes?

Sciatica occurs when there is pressure on the sciatic nerve, which starts in the lower back and runs down the legs. Typically, sciatica is only present on one side of the body and the pain will only radiate down one leg. However, it's possible for the pain to travel to both legs at the same time. A bone spur and herniated disc can be two reasons why you are experiencing pressure on the sciatic nerve. While pain medication can help, chiropractic care is a common treatment for sciatica and can provide relief from discomfort. Some people experience problems with their sciatic nerve frequently, while other people almost never have a flare up.

Is Sciatica Preventable?

While sciatica is not preventable, you can reduce the chances of developing it by avoiding lifting heavy items incorrectly or without support and twisting your back. If you're more prone to sciatica you may also want to work with our chiropractor to focus on maintenance treatment that can help you minimize the risk. We may recommend that you schedule chiropractic care at regular intervals with us and suggest stretches and exercises you can do at home to help alleviate your pain.

How Can Our Chiropractor Treat Sciatica?

Our chiropractor treats sciatica by gently realigning the regions of the spine that are causing pressure on the sciatic nerve. Whether your pain is due to a herniated disc or spinal stenosis, we want to eliminate the pressure that is compressing the nerve. When there's no pressure on the nerve, it's not being inflamed or aggravated, which can reduce or eliminate the pain.
